IN BETWEEN

The project In Between (Two Waves of Covid-19) was shot in Italy, right after the fist wave of Covid-19 and up until the second wave came into full force. Italy was the first Western country with a wide spread of COVID-19, but it was the first one to introduce containment restrictions, tightening them week by week and subjecting the 60 million people living in the country to unprecedented limitations. On 3 June, 2020 free movement within the whole national territory was restored, de facto ending the lockdown started in March. Slowly, people started enjoying their lives again, the borders opened for foreigners. I have crossed the Italian borders on June 6. Starting from July 2020, many countries in Europe, including Italy, witnessed a new rise in detected COVID-19 cases. "Ferragosto" (The tradition of feriae augusti dates back to 18 BC, so you see that it is pretty much instilled in the Italian DNA to "vacate" the city for the month of August and "vacation"!) was in full swing when the first restrictions were being slowly introduced again. I left Rome shortly after 25 October, when Prime Minister Conte imposed the closing of gyms, swimming pools, theatres and cinemas, as well as the closing of bars and restaurants by 6 pm. The dark times of the second pandemic wave have just started.
